The Aravalli Hill Ride - Special Package: 2006/07 ( Medium riders)
4N/5D:Kotri - Kotri - Narlai - Ranakpur - Kumbhalgarh
Day 01: AM Drive Ex Jodhpur (3 hrs)/Udaipur (3 hrs drive)-, to
the hamlet of Kotri
at the foothills of The Aravalli. Arrive for Lunch.
PM Try out horses. Ride out through open country, past hills and farmland
so that both you and your mount get to test each other.( 1 to 2 hr ride
)
O/N Kotri Raola.( A 200 yr old Castle with modern amenities. -
The owner - Th.Mahendra Singh will be your host)
Day 02: AMRide out past farms and lakes, you see the colourful
shepherds-(rabari's) with their sheep, and the farmers working the fields.
You will soon arrive at the Muthana bird lake.
( 3 hr ride) Here we stop for a refreshments and watch the many migratory
birds of Rajasthan. Transfer to Jeeps and drive past the mechant town
of Sadri to arrive at Maharani Bagh Orchard for lunch.
PM Visit the Famous 15th cent. Ranakpur Jain Temples by Jeep (4 km away).
Return to the lake and ride back to Kotri ( 2 hrs ).

Day 03: AM Ride out past open farmland, to the rocky hills of
Narlai. (3 hrs ) Lunch.
PM: Leisure at Narlai, Climb the Rock of Narad, & visit the many temples
in the village OR Ride the horses out through scrubland jungle to a farm
near Ghanerao.( 2 hrs)

Day 04: AM Drive out by Jeep to the ancient town of Ghanerao,
once the capital of Godwar and also the home of your riding escort. Meet
your horses and ride out into the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary past
tribal garacia villages and farms along the Aravalli until we arrive at
Thandi veri - crocodile dam for refreshments ( 1 hr ride). (Noted ornithologists
have visited this spot and counted over 90 species of jungle and water
birds.The sanctuary is home to bear, leopard, various species of deer,
wild boar, among others)
Ride ( 3 hrs ride) up a steep trail through the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary
climbing 2000ft to the The Aodhi. Later Visit the unconquered Kumbhalgarh
Fort, with its huge bastions, 9 gates, and 36 Km of unbroken 20ft thick
wall. (circa 15th cent) .

(NB: If the clients are not experienced enough riders, they may have to
drive up to Kumbhalgarh from Thandi veri.This decision will be taken by

Day 05: AM Depart for Udaipur ( 2 hrs )/ Jodhpur (4 hrs).

5N/6D:Kotri - Narlai - ( Ranakpur) Narlai - Kumbhalgarh - Deogarh
Day 01: AM Drive Ex Jodhpur/Udaipur (2 hrs drive)-, to the hamlet

Day 04: AM Drive 10km to the ancient town of Ghanerao, once the
capital of Godwar and the home of your riding escort. You will pass baori's,
and cenotaphs on your way to the Castle of Ghanerao where you will meet
your horses. Ride (1 hr) past tribal garacia villages and farms along

Day 05: AM. Depart for Deogarh by your vehicle.( 2 hr drive) Deogarh
Mahal is recommended by Tatler as one of the best hotels in its category
in the world. With spa and aurvedic massages etc..
PM Optional Rural Ramble visiting caves and villages by jeep and end with
tea at sunset.

Day 06: AM Depart for Udaipur( 3 hrs )

Day 01: AM Drive ex Jodhpur 40Km to Rohet. Lunch.
PM: Go by jeep to meet our horses at the village of the bishnoi. These
people are desert conservationists and it is because of them that you
get to see a lot of antelope, blackbuck and chinkara. We meet our horses
here and ride (10km) to the Khandi Wilderness Camp. O/N Khandi Tented
Village Camp
Day 02: AM Ride out past other desert villages and through desert
terrain till we reach Doondli a village of Brahmins and where we witness
some of the customs and traditions of the desert including the amal ka
dastoor or opium ceremony. Continue to ride to Rohet .(16KM) Lunch
PM : Leisure at Poolside ,village walk, O/N Rohetgarh ( Rohetgarh is a
unique and exclusive heritage hotel )
Day 03: AM Ride to Sardar Samand through sandy tracts and scrubland,
passing quaint hamlets of mud-huts occupied by the various colorfully
clad tribes of the desert. (28 Km ride)
PM Relax in the luxurious Palace with its comfortable rooms, Pool on the
terrace, and watch the bird life on the Lake. Amazing sunset views.
O/N The Sardar Samand Palace. (This is a property of the Maharaja of Jodhpur,
situated at the edge of a huge lake, on a hill overlooking miles of open
country around you.)
Day 04: AM Drive Ex Sardar Samand (3 hrs drive), to the hamlet
of Kotri . This is a small shepherds village set against a rocky hill..
Arrive for Lunch.
PM Ride out via open country, through volcanic outcrops and visit stepwells
and temples at a nearby old town of Nadole. Return to Kotri (10km)

Day 05: AM Ride out past open farmland, en route to the rocky
hills of Narlai. (This is a 3 hr ride) (12 Km ) Lunch.
PM: Leisure at Narlai, Climb the Rock of Narad, & visit the many temples

Bhawan Group of Hotels)
Day 06: AM Ride out past farms and lakes, you see the colourful
shepherds with their sheep, the farmers working the fields. You will soon
arrive at Muthana bird lake.( 3 hr ride)( 18 Km) Here we stop for refreshments
and watch the many migratory birds of Rajasthan. We now transfer to Jeeps
to drive 10Km through the merchant town of Sadri bringing us to Maharani
Bagh/Ranakpur Hill Resort. Lunch.
PM: Visit the famous 15th cent. Ranakpur Jain Temples by Jeep. (4 km ).
O/N Maharani Bagh/ Ranakpur Hill Resort.
Day 07: AM Drive back to meet your horses at Ghanerao Castle -
the home of your riding escort. Mount up and ride out past tribal garacia
villages and farms along the Aravalli and we enter the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife
Sanctuary. We stop at Thandi veri - crocodile dam for refreshments. (

Continue to ride ( 3 hrs) ( 18km)up a Steep trail through the Kumbhalgarh
Wildlife Sanctuary climbing 2000ft to the The Aodhi. .
PM: Visit the Kumbhalgarh Fort circa 1458, with its huge bastions, 9 gates,
and 36Km of unbroken wall. This historic fort built by Rana Kumbha (hence
the name) was so strong that it withstood almost continuous attacks by
the Mughals.

Day 08: END Depart for Udaipur/Deogarh

Thar Desert to the Aravalli Hills Ride - ( For Advanced Riders
) - ( 180 km)
( Minimum group strength 6 riders Max 15 riders )7N/8D
Day 1: Arr Jodhpur and transfer to Rohet Garh. O/N Rohet Garh
(Rohet Garh is an old family property of theThakur of Rohet, and now converted
into a Hotel with beautiful rooms surrounding a lawn , Swimming Pool,
health club etc. The Garh is walled all around and set within a village
in the semi-desert country.) -
Day 2: Ride 12 Km through scrubland past the hamlets of the Bishnoi
tribe. You will see herds of Blackbuck & Chinkara. Return to Rohet
for Lunch. O/N Rohet Garh
Day 3: AM Ride again through sandy tracts and scrubland, passing
quaint hamlets of mud-huts occupied by the various colorfully clad tribes
of the desert. (28 Km ride)
NOON: Lunch at the splendid Sardar Samand Palace, property of the Maharaja
of Jodhpur, situated at the edge of a huge lake, on a hill overlooking
miles of open country around you.
PM Relax in the luxurious Palace with its comfortable rooms, Pool on the
terrace, and watch the bird life on the Lake. O/N The Sardar Samand Palace.

Day 4: Ride off after an early breakfast, through open scrubland,
along dusty trails, passing through villages upto Utwan. (22Km). Here
we stop for a picnic lunch, prepared hot on site.
PM We start getting into greener tracts, skirting the huge Hemawas Dam,
until by sunset we reach Sodawas Kot. (23 Km) O/N Karni Kot - Sodawas-
A country mansion belonging to Th. Sunder Singh of Sodawas.
Day 5: AM Another long day-another early start. Ride through Farms
and bigger villages. You watch the landscape change from dry thorny scrub
of the first two days to taller trees and rich fertile farmlands. You
will see the multifarious use of oxen in ploughing, carting and irrigation.
Arrive at an Old Shiva Temple for Lunch.( 18Km Ride )
PM: Ride on and we start getting into low hillocks and open grassland,
and by evening we are at an ancient 200 yr old castle in the middle of
a small rustic shepherds village. The castle has been provided with modern
amenities.( 20Km)
O/N Kotri Castle. Th. Mahendra Singhji is from the nobility of the House
of Ghanerao.
Day 6: AM Ride off after breakfast to the Muthana bird lake, and
then dismount at Sadri to transfer to Jeeps to go to Ranakpur. Arrive
for lunch at The Maharani Bagh Orchard Retreat. ( 25Km)
PM: Drive by Jeep (4 Km) to visit the famous Ranakpur Jain Temples circa
1462 AD. The huge structure is marble, and intricately carved deities
and Apsaras adorn the pillars, domes and walls of this awe inspiring structure.
Return to the horses O/N Maharani Bagh Orchard - (this is a cottage complex
owned and run by the Welcomheritage group of Hotels.) OPTION - Ranakpur
Hill Resort.
Day 7: AM: We now ride along the periphery of the Kumbhalgarh game
reserve through the Aravalli Hills until we come into a valley inhabited
by the Tribal Garacias. Lunch at Thandi veri crocodile dam .(18Km Ride)
PM : Now the tough part of the ride. We climb 2000ft in 3 hrs , through
the Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary to arrive at The Aodhi - Hotel .( 12
Km Ride )
Later visit the famous Kumbhalgarh Fort built 1462AD by the Maharana Kumbha
as a retreat for the forces of Mewar. This Fort has a history of many
battles and remains as probably the only unconquered Fort.

Day 8: AM Depart for Udaipur 2 hrs drive.
